The pace never lets up, except for the sex. This is the first novel I've read from this author, having discovered her almost out of the blue. I'm not generally a romance fan, but I do have a few romance indie authors that I follow and the work of whom I read almost automatically. I suspect Samantha Jane will become one of them. The love was a bit instant, and almost all the struggles were with outside forces. That's a nice change of pace for a romance. There isn't the totally avoidable misunderstanding and very little of the love triangle that can sometimes seem so predictable and hard to suffer. A good part of why I read indies of all genres is that they do the unexpected. I saw the major conflict coming, but I didn't expect it to come in the way that it did or for it to be resolved the way it was resolved. Maybe it's my inexperience with the genre.
The sex wasn't as graphic as erotica (from what I know about it—I'm not much of an erotica fan, either), but not as silly or tame as a sweet romance would be. For me, it was just right, although because it was often sandwiched between fast-paced action, I read it quickly (especially the final sex scene) and didn't savor it as much as others might.
I'm glad I read it and I'm looking forward to the next novel in the series!
Neither the main character nor the love interest have an especially deep flaw. That said, the main character isn't all-powerful or always right.

Starborn The Order of Orion Book 1 edition by Samantha Jane Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
This was a crazy ride with a lot of twists and turns! Willow and her twin were separated at birth and she's lived her whole life searching for her. A kill and retrieve order sets Lucas up to meet Willow. After taking her to The Order it's plain to see that they aren't everything they say. Throughout the book I didn't trust The Order, and I still don't. Luckily Willow was the same. She questioned The Order and her new mentor, whom she has a connection with, Lucas. Lucas lives and breathes The Order but notices things Willow points out and starts having doubts.
The pacing was a bit of a problem for me. Most places it was super slow, and others it was way too fast. It interrupted the flow of the book a bit. Overall I was able to get into the story after skipping some parts that were just not necessary to the story. Willow was a tough character and I liked her immensely. Lucas was a bit of a drag at first but I ended up falling in love with him. Both had tragedies in their past that lent to some strong personalities. Even through the pacing problems I enjoyed this book and will be looking forward to Eve's book next.
I liked this tale on paranormal . Engaging interactions. People to like, hate, root for. Minor insta love but it was bearable.
A fresh look at the paranormal is managed very well in this novel and the balance of likeable characters and tension is excellent. Loved all the characters, loved the plot and the flow of writing. Can’t wait to see what happens with Eve.
I’m not normally an urban fantasy reader, but this story captivated me.
Samantha Jane is a new author and her debut novel was mysterious and suspenseful.
The story is extremely interesting and it kept me on my toes wanting to know more.
The romantic undertones in this story were fantastic and connecting all the pieces within this story was wonderful.
Ms. Jane’s writing is exceptional. Her character development is remarkable and each secondary character in this story has a specific role to play.
I'm looking forward to book two because there is so much more to come.
If you are looking for something new and different, this is a must read.
Holy cow what a ride! Unlike ANY paranormal book I've ever read! Willow has spent her entire life with one goal in mind.... Find her sister. Torn apart at a young age thanks to the Foster system, she's desperate to find her. Using all her abilities she became a therapist.... She's been doing research for years comparing people with so-called mental issues claiming to have powers, and comparing it to how many actually have powers. How the heck was she to know it would put a giant X marks the spot on a faction of people with just those powers. STARBORN are people blessed with a variety of amazing abilities. Willow not only does research, but speaks to groups of people who think they have abilities. Using her own emotional telepathy that she keeps well hidden, she tries to discern who else might also have abilities. Lucas is sent along with rookie Granger to rescue the young Starborn in her group and eliminate Dr Willow. After all, in their minds she's putting their people at great risk. Everything turns on it's head when events transpire and Lucas quickly realizes Willow is also a Starborn!! Going against everything he stands for, he refuses the order given and brings her and the group to sanctuary. After that he has zero control... Will he be punished for disobeying? Can Willow and the others prove their abilities? And above all, what the heck is up with these feelings he has for this fiery doctor? Another rogue group of Starborn called Noctem are out to find Starborn and use them for nefarious purposes... They have no qualms about torturing these people to get what they want. It's a battle between Noctem and The Order of Orion that Lucas and Granger belong to. They want to help protect all Starborn. Both Willow and Lucas endured highly traumatic childhoods, and due to it they hold high emotional shields. Yet somehow each are drawn to the other. Take this ride and discover what's in their pasts... Will Willow find her sister? Tons of mystery, intrigue, action, political doings and romance are packed into this brilliant first of the series. I cannot wait for the next book. It will leave you wanting MORE, MORE, MORE. What a great book from this new author.
